I. Anhui Furniture Is Not Simply an "Industrial Transfer Backyard"
When people discuss Anhui's furniture industry, the most common framing is "receiving industrial transfers from the Yangtze River Delta." That framing is not wrong, but it misses a more important story — the anchors Anhui has built for itself beyond mere absorption.
Guangde borders Zhejiang's Anji County, widely known as "China's Chair Township," which produces roughly half of China's office chair exports. Rather than replicating Anji's chair cluster, Guangde took a different path: converting its nearly 900,000 mu of moso bamboo forests into a bamboo material and bamboo furniture supply base, while channeling inbound custom office furniture investment through the Anhui-Jiangsu-Zhejiang Industrial Cooperation Park. Huoshan, in Lu'an, has positioned itself as a key national producer of bamboo flooring and engineered bamboo panels. Hefei incubated Zbom Home, an A-share listed custom cabinetry company competing at the national top tier. Fuyang and other northern Anhui cities absorb board and upholstered furniture orders from Guangdong and Zhejiang, competing primarily on cost and volume.
Viewed together, Anhui's furniture manufacturing sector is not a unified industrial belt but a set of geographically dispersed nodes, each with its own role, growing along the Yangtze River Delta perimeter.
II. Guangde: Turning 14.5 Billion Yuan of Bamboo into Furniture Supply Chain
To understand Anhui furniture's resource base, begin with Guangde's bamboo industry.
Guangde, in southeastern Anhui bordering Zhejiang's Changxing County, has approximately 880,000 mu of bamboo forest — among the highest in any county-level jurisdiction in Anhui. The city has developed an integrated three-sector bamboo economy, spanning primary processing, bamboo flooring and profiles, bamboo-fiber food products, and bamboo tourism. In 2024, Guangde's total bamboo industry output reached 14.5 billion yuan. Key enterprises include Sentai Wood-Plastic, which focuses on bamboo-wood composite co-extruded profiles and outdoor decking, and Yaolong Bamboo Timber, a national-level leading forestry enterprise specializing in bamboo laminated lumber and bamboo scrimber.
The relationship between Guangde's bamboo industry and its furniture sector is one of supply-side push: local bamboo material processors supply furniture component manufacturers, who in turn produce bamboo-wood tables, chairs, and storage products. The Guangde Economic Development Zone serves as the entry point for custom office furniture investors relocating from Zhejiang, drawn by lower costs and proximity to Anji's supply chain.
III. Huoshan: Bamboo Deep Processing at National Scale
If Guangde represents bamboo breadth, Huoshan represents bamboo depth.
Huoshan County (Lu'an) has approximately 510,000 mu of bamboo forest, with an annual harvestable volume of 18 million culms. The county has 10 above-scale bamboo processing enterprises and over 120 small workshops, employing close to 5,000 people; secondary-sector bamboo output exceeds 1 billion yuan. Huoshan is a nationally significant production base for bamboo flooring, bamboo scrimber, bamboo-faced plywood, and bamboo daily goods. The leading enterprise, Anhui Longhua Bamboo Industry, holds a provincial-level enterprise technology center, 24 patents, and ranks as the largest in Anhui's bamboo processing sector and among the top nationally. Products target furniture, construction materials, and export channels.
Huoshan's significance lies not in volume alone but in its processing sophistication. Bamboo flooring and scrimber require precision drying, sugar removal, and hot-pressing — steps with higher technical barriers than typical bamboo crafts. A mountain county of fewer than 400,000 people achieving a national market position in this niche reflects years of accumulated process know-how.
IV. Zbom Home: From Cabinets to A-Share Top Three in Custom Interiors
Anhui's clearest capital-market representative in furniture is Zbom Home Co., Ltd. (stock code 603801), headquartered in Hefei.
Founded in 2005 and listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange in 2017, Zbom is one of Anhui's rare A-share furniture companies. Starting with integrated kitchen cabinets, it expanded into custom wardrobes and interior doors under a whole-home customization strategy. In the first three quarters of 2025, Zbom reported revenue of 3.074 billion yuan, ranking third among 15 listed custom home furnishings companies in China, with net profit of 173 million yuan also at third place. Custom wardrobes now account for nearly half of revenue; overseas business grew 65% year-on-year, covering 41 countries and 36 stores, with strategic focus on Australia, North America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.
Zbom matters to Anhui's furniture narrative because it demonstrates that the province can grow a nationally competitive custom furniture brand from within — without relying on relocated factories from Guangdong or Zhejiang. Its Hefei base anchors a local supply chain in panels, hardware, and edge-banding materials, while its export trajectory offers a replicable model for other Anhui furniture exporters.
V. Fuyang and Northern Anhui: Volume承接 as the Industry's Scale Base
The bulk production base of Anhui's furniture sector lies in northern Anhui. Fuyang, Bozhou, and neighboring cities offer lower land and labor costs, making them natural destinations for board furniture and upholstered furniture order flows from Zhejiang and Guangdong.
In Fuyang, Anhui Yuejiao Smart Home is among the larger players, with nearly 1,000 employees, over 500 dedicated production machines, and province-wide distribution capacity. Fuyang Hongxing Furniture and Anhui Jinma Furniture serve primarily the provincial retail market and e-commerce channels. This segment is characterized by a large number of small-to-medium enterprises, price-led competition, and limited brand equity.
In aggregate, Anhui's above-scale furniture manufacturers generated 37.278 billion yuan in industrial output during January-April 2024, up 17.1% year-on-year; industrial sales output reached 35.441 billion yuan, up 14.9% — materially outpacing the national furniture sector's average growth rate over the same period.
VI. Supply Chain: Externally Dependent, Gradually Supplemented
Upstream inputs for Anhui furniture include engineered panels, hardware fittings, coatings, foam, and textiles. Downstream markets span provincial real estate fitout, e-commerce, and export.
The upstream gap is most visible in panels: large-scale particleboard and MDF production is concentrated in Guangxi and Hunan, so Anhui furniture factories import a significant share of their board requirements from outside the province, adding freight cost disadvantage. Hardware supply near Hefei and Wuhu provides partial local coverage, but density remains far below Pearl River Delta and core Yangtze River Delta furniture clusters.
As Anhui's new-energy vehicle and precision components sector has expanded rapidly, stamping and metal-forming capacity near Hefei has grown — creating spillover potential for furniture hardware localization. This cross-sector manufacturing synergy, within the Yangtze River Delta integration framework, represents one of the most realistic near-term paths for Anhui to reduce its hardware import dependency.
For upstream sales teams supplying panel materials, hardware fittings, coatings, foam, or machinery to Anhui furniture manufacturers, Tianxia Gongchang provides searchable factory directories and key contact information filtered by Anhui Province and furniture manufacturing sector, enabling targeted business development rather than ad-hoc cold outreach.
VII. Transition Challenges: Technology Differentiation, Brand Scarcity, and Environmental Pressure
Laying the four clusters side by side, the structural challenges of Anhui's furniture sector come into focus.
The first is technology stratification. Zbom occupies the high-value-added end of the custom furniture market; Guangde and Huoshan have built defensible bamboo processing niches. But the majority of northern Anhui's board and upholstered furniture factories remain in volume-price competition with thin margins and limited e-commerce channel leverage. Guiding this production base toward functional customization and smart furniture represents one of the sector's core medium-term questions.
The second is brand scarcity. Beyond Zbom's export channels, Anhui furniture brands hold modest recognition in national retail and export markets compared with Guangdong, Zhejiang, or Sichuan. Weak branding translates into persistent pricing pressure and limited channel bargaining power.
The third is the environmental constraint on bamboo deep processing. Hot-pressing, coating, and sugar-removal steps in bamboo flooring and scrimber production involve energy consumption and chemical inputs that face tightening environmental standards — particularly for small workshops where process consistency is uneven.
VIII. Research Institute Assessment
Anhui's furniture manufacturing sector does not have Guangdong's scale, Zhejiang's cluster density, or Sichuan's solid-wood supply advantages. What it does have is a set of assets that are difficult to replicate elsewhere in the Yangtze River Delta: Guangde's 880,000 mu of bamboo forest and 14.5 billion yuan bamboo output represent the nearest major bamboo deep-processing base within the delta circle; Huoshan's technical depth in bamboo flooring and scrimber is rare for a county of its size; Hefei's Zbom has established a genuine A-share presence in the national custom furniture ranking.
These anchors exist independently of one another — which is both the sector's resilience and its limitation. The real test is whether northern Anhui volume production can move toward differentiation, whether Guangde and Huoshan's bamboo advantages can extend into higher-value furniture categories, and whether Zbom's overseas expansion can drive local supply chain upgrade. Tianxia Gongchang Industry Research Institute's assessment is that Anhui furniture's next chapter will be decided by how effectively local bamboo resources and Yangtze River Delta industrial integration are genuinely fused — not by absorbing more low-price orders.
